چکیده

In this paper, a model is described to add human-like scent perception to the Spatial Model of Interaction (SMI) [BF93]. The SMI is a generally accepted model for interaction between Intelligent Virtual Agents in Virtual Environments. The extension of the SMI with scent perception consists of Virtual Odor and a Virtual Nose Sensor. Virtual Odor is represented by particles in the Virtual Environment. The Virtual Nose consists of an Artificial Neural Network, through this network the virtual molecules of odor can be identified and the class and density of the odor can be determined. This output, combined with visual and hearing perception, contributes to an action-selection in the extended SMI.

A Human Based Perception Model for Cooperative Intelligent Virtual Agents

Interactive virtual worlds provide a powerful medium for experimental learning and entertainment. Nowadays, virtual environments often incorporate human-like embodied virtual agents with varying degrees of intelligence, getting what we call Intelligent Virtual Agents (IVAs). Collaboration between agents can be very important to reach aware of what is surrounding each agent each and every moment...

Behavioral Animation of Virtual Agents

The animation of virtual agents has received great attention during the last two decades. This recent field, also known as Artificial Life, is based on the observation of natural systems. The core is to create a virtual environment inhabited by virtual agents that evolve in a life-like way. To this aim, several techniques emulating biological organisms and designed to manage different types of ...

Constraints and Design Choices in Building Intelligent Pilots for Simulated Aircraft: Extended Abstract

1. Introduction This paper focuses on our recent research effort aimed at developing human-like, intelligent agents (virtual humans) for large-scale, interactive simulation environments (virtual reality). These simulated environments have sufficiently high fidelity and realism[l 1,23] that constructing intelligent agents requires us to face many of the hard research challenges faced by physical...

Exploring the influence of haptic and olfactory cues 1 Exploring the influence of haptic and olfactory cues of a virtual donut on satiation and eating behavior

Olfactory research in immersive virtual environments (IVEs) have often examined the addition of scent as part of the environment or atmosphere that act as experimental stimuli. There appears to be a lack of research on the influence of virtual foods in IVEs on human satiation. Studies based on situational cues or self-perception theory provide support for the hypothesis that touching and smelli...

Aspects of Metacognitive Self-Awareness in Maryland Virtual Patient

This paper describes Maryland Virtual Patient (MVP), a simulation and tutoring environment developed to support training cognitive decision making in clinical medicine. MVP is implemented as a society of agents, with one role – that of the trainee – played by a human and other roles played by artificial intelligent agents. In order to make the trainee’s experience as similar as possible to the ...
